The main objective of the Municipality of Prague 9 is to provide its citizens with reliable, effective and modern public services. The Municipality also initiates and supervises public investments proposed to improve living conditions and quality of life in general in the administrative district of Prague 9.
One of the most important tasks of Prague 9 is providing and improving of education at all levels – kindergartens, elementary schools, high schools and university. This is very important, because Prague 9 currently goes through a phase of massive boom of elementary school children.
Prague 9 also tries to provide its citizens with activities for their free time, which includes a lot of sports clubs, musical clubs, concerts, galleries, bicycle paths, national history trails, traffic playground, where children can play and also learn how to behave responsibly in the traffic. Of course, this is not everything you can do in Prague 9 – there are many other possibilities for people with different focus.
Prague 9 also actively fights against crime and drug use in its area, in particular with prevention. There is a Centre of social services, which provides social care and health care to children, seniors and handicapped citizens of Prague 9. There is also a Field program for children and youth which seeks out children and young people in the age of 13 to 19 in the areas as subway stations, parks etc. The social service then provides them information, advisement and support in difficult areas in life which correlate with adolescence.
As all the other districts in Prague, even Prague 9 makes a great effort in improving the situation in traffic, especially public transport, which is vital in the everyday life of the city. That is also linked with the effort to lessen the pollution and promoting vegetation as much as possible.
Very important are activities took part under the frame of the project INVOLVE (financed by the Interreg IV.C Programme, implemented in cooperation with a partner from Germany) – during this project Prague 9 got inspired from the other partners and as a result introduced for example organized cycling trips for its citizens. Under the frame of the project City regions Prague 9 learnt how to involve the citizens to the urban-rural development strategy forming. Prague 9 also runs the annual event Mikroklima which focuses on the ecologic issues (waste management, climate change, sustainable traffic).
